7 Portes review by Mitchy
My wife and I visited this atmospheric restaurant for lunch in Aug 06. We enjoyed our experience although we have had better food in Barcelona.
We were greeted promptly by the waiters as we entered the restaurant. They were all impeccably dressed in uniform and provided prompt and unintrusive (although a little distant) service. The decor was very neat - black and white mable floor, high ceiling, wooden beams etc. There were plenty of locals, some with children, some with their grans. Like many Barcelona restaurants, they had english and spanish speaking waiters and menus.
We ordered 7 porters starter platter (~15 euro) which included anchovy, bllod sausage, prawns, cockles (and other shells), chorizo, bread with tomatoe, croquets, fried cod in a ball etc. 1/2 litre Sangria (8 euros) was the best we tasted in our stay with very rich flavour and not too sweet.
Our main was 'richmans paella'(at ~18 euros/person). The rice was cooked to perfection, leaving a little bite, and there was a big potion of lobster (cut but still in shell). The portions were big, and there was enough for seconds on the paella dish even after a big plateful. It had too much salt in it for my taste though, and unfortunately this ruined the dish as the undoubtedly rich flavour of the paella was hard to taste. A real shame.
Over all, a nice little restaurant with ambience and good service. It caters for both family and couple. The price is a little above the local standard though.
