Gaig review by Penny Smith
Ate here on my 50th birthday, and WHAT a treat is was! It was FANTASTIC! The whole experience will never be forgotten. In true spanish tradition they don't open until 9pm (ish) - I guess they wait until the restaurant is ready before taking people up. You CAN arrive early and sit and have a drink in the reception area down stairs. Once they are open you are greated by a member of staff and checked off on their list of reservations - a must I would say - and escorted up to the restaurant and your table. There were quite a lot of tables, but still managed to keep an intimate air. You can choose from the main and a 'specials' menu. The main menus was translated into english, but not the 'specials'. The waiters did their best to translate, but their command of english was not great. Once you've ordered they will offer to split your starters, so that in effect you get 2 courses of starters -never had that before, so we were a little puzzled, but pleasantly surprised. We both had different mushroom dishes & both were delicious - full portions would have been enourmous!
We both had the suckling pig for main, which was lovely - I can still taste it now! Deserts were an art form in themselves. I had fresh pineapple which was wafer thin and just melted in the mouth. It was very refreshing after the rich main course.
The staff were fantastic, very attentive, friendly and polite without being overbearing and pompous. They are obviously not stuffy with regards to dress code either. A couple sitting at the next table to us were quite casually dressed, he was wearing jeans & causal shirt.
The whole experience was wonderful and if we lived in or near Barcelona would be repeated I'm sure.
