El Gran Cafe

Very disappointing. The restaurant decor is beautiful, sort of old-school french style. The service is very good, the waiters were amiable and efficient. Everything is set for a great dining out experience. However the food is mediocre and unjustifiably overpriced. We had a steak with pepper and pate cream sauce (which either did not arrive or they forgot to put the pepper ,pate or cream in) from the chef's recommended menu. We also had seabass supreme with potatoes and vegetables, The fish was ok, the vegetables warm but the potato half was cold and generally lacking in flavour. All in all a really unsatisfactory meal. If the prices were halved then this place would be worth a visit for the food other than the decor and service.

El Gran Cafe was a tourist trap! Yes, the ambience is like a turn-of-the-century French cafe, but the food is completely underwhelming. Mushroom salad to start was cold and lifeless and onion soup tasted like it was made with a stock cube. Segovia-style lamb was nice, but a bit overcooked. Duck with plum/grapedfruit sauce was a bit overdone/chewy as well. We weren't optimistic about dessert so left after 2 courses. Very disappointed.
